Syriacs of Tirbespiyê hope Christmas brings peace in Syria 

On the occasion of Christmas, Christians in Tirbespiyê, in the Jazira Canton, marked the birth of Jesus Christ yesterday by holding prayers in churches. The city’s various components also congratulated the Syriac people, visiting churches and the office of the Syriac Union Party.

Christians in Tirbespiyê told ANHA agency that they hope this year will mark the beginning of genuine peace in Syria, an end to wars and conflicts, and efforts toward building a democratic, decentralized Syria for all components of the Syrian people.

Adib Gawrih Shabo, co-chair of the Syriac Union Party in Tirbespiyê, began by extending his congratulations to the Syriac people in Syria and around the world, stating: “Our message is one of peace and love, and Jesus Christ is our role model in spreading this message. We hope this year will be a year of peace and goodness for all components of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, including Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians, and Yazidis.”

He added: “When we see today all components here in Tirbespiyê exchanging greetings on the occasion of the holiday, it sends a message to the entire world that we are a people bound together for thousands of years, and that we will continue in our unity as components to build a democratic Syria for all its people.”

For his part, citizen Rabi Touma congratulated all Syrians on the birth of Jesus Christ, expressing his hope that this year’s Christmas would mark the beginning of a new year for the Syrian people and the building of a democratic Syria that embraces all its components, as is the case in North and East Syria, where everyone lives side by side.

He noted that the Syrian people have endured immense suffering during the long years of war, and expressed his hope that conflicts would come to an end across all of Syria.
