Residents of the Euphrates canton shared with ANHA agency their vision for Syria’s future and the imperative to establish a decentralized and pluralistic system that safeguards the rights of all groups.

In this context, citizen Nisreen Mohammed Hami stated that the fall of the Baath regime did not open the door to building a democratic state but rather paved the way for a more extremist government. She said: “If the current situation continues with its massacres, violations, and assaults against women, Syria will head toward a dead end. We have witnessed massacres committed against our people, including Alawites and Druze, which are immoral acts. It is the transitional government’s duty to protect the rights of all Syrian components.”

“Our demand is for a decentralized Syria”

Nisreen added that the demand of Kobani’s residents is to establish a decentralized and pluralistic Syria that guarantees justice and equality among all components. She said: “We reject the centralized state project pursued by the current government. We live in the region of North and East Syria, where Kurdish, Arab, Assyrian, Syriac, and Christian communities coexist with equal rights. We want this model to be realized throughout Syria.”

“Syria belongs to everyone”

Citizen Khonaf Bozan emphasized in her interview with ANHA agency that the prolonged war in Syria primarily aimed to protect the freedom of all communities.

She strongly rejected the attempts by the Damascus government to impose a centralized system, stating: “The Damascus government seeks to establish a centralized Syria, but we will never accept that, because Syria is a homeland for all its people.”

She further explained that the constitution being drafted by the Damascus government is based on a narrow nationalist perspective, adding: “We want Syria to be built according to the model of North and East Syria, where all components live side by side enjoying their equal rights.”

Meanwhile, citizen Asmat Qardab highlighted the crimes and violations committed against the Druze and Alawites, saying: “The Damascus government must be held accountable for the brutal attacks carried out by its mercenaries against the Druze and Alawites. These communities must organize and defend themselves, similar to what the people of North and East Syria have done.”

He affirmed: “We will continue our struggle to build a decentralized democratic Syria that guarantees justice for all its citizens.”
