In recent days, residents of Sweida have suffered from attacks by the transitional government forces, which targeted villages and civilian areas with indiscriminate shelling, resulting in casualties and the displacement of large numbers of people. In this context, one citizen told ANHA agency that he narrowly escaped intense shelling while returning from work, stressing that he was unarmed and had taken no part in any clashes.

He said: “I am a civilian from Sweida. I never carried a weapon, I didn’t fight anyone, and I didn’t attack anyone. We were just returning from work when we were suddenly attacked by extremist militias who fired a huge number of shells at us.”

He explained that the shelling targeted civilians in the streets, causing panic and fear. He added that he and others had taken refuge in a safer village in Sweida to receive medical treatment and find protection.

He concluded by saying, “We appeal to anyone who can help this village and its people; may God protect you,” highlighting the dire humanitarian conditions residents are facing amid ongoing attacks and a lack of medical services and aid.
