Sources from the Democratic Union Party (PYD) said the party is moving toward holding an extraordinary congress in October.

The sources said preparations and arrangements for the congress are currently underway, adding that the party is expected to undergo major changes.

The Democratic Union Party, abbreviated as PYD, was founded on September 20, 2003, in Rojava. It is considered one of the largest Kurdish parties in Syria. Its members were subjected to persecution by the former Baathist regime, with many arrested and some martyred in the basements of security branches, including Abo Judi, while others were martyred in plots involving the Syrian and Turkish regimes, among them was Shelan Kobani (Maysaa Baqi), a party leader who was assassinated along with her comrades Zakaria Ibrahim, Hikmat Tokmak, Nebo Ali, and Haji Jumaa Ali in a plot targeting them on November 29, 2004, in the Iraqi city of Mosul.
