SOHR: Officials seize 1,500 barrels of oil daily

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that, under the supervision of a deputy to the Minister of Energy in the Interim Government and a sheikh identified as (N.R.), systematic daily seizures of large quantities of crude oil are taking place, diverted beyond official oversight and generating profits estimated at tens of thousands of dollars per day for influential figures orchestrating these operations.

According to the SOHR, approximately 1,500 barrels of oil are being appropriated daily from overall production, without being registered in the official records of the Interim Government.

These quantities are reportedly transported in private tankers to the  refineries in the town of Tarhin, north of Aleppo, where they are crudely processed into gasoline and diesel.

The Observatory stated that this scheme operates under the direct supervision of a senior aide to the Minister of Energy, alongside Sheikh (N.R.), with the refined products illicitly marketed in local markets, generating significant daily revenues for the power brokers behind the operation.

The SOHR did not disclose the identity of the deputy involved, nor the specific oil extraction sites being exploited by these influential actors.
