Over the past hours, areas in the Sweida countryside have witnessed a cessation of mutual attacks between Syria’s transitional government forces and the National Guard forces, after days of repeated violations of the ceasefire in the region.

Transitional government forces had targeted National Guard positions along several axes last night using heavy weapons and mortar shells. The National Guard responded by firing heavy machine guns at the sources of fire. No confirmed information has yet emerged regarding human or material losses.

A spokesperson for the National Guard told ANHA agency that the shelling stopped at dawn today, noting that the fronts are currently experiencing a cautious calm, amid continued anticipation among both the forces and civilians.

Sweida and its countryside have been under a ceasefire since the end of July this year between transitional government forces and the National Guard (Druze), under international sponsorship, following Israeli intervention in favor of the latter.
