Preparations are underway for the return of displaced persons from Serêkaniyê to their city, amidst growing hopes of ending years of displacement and ushering in a new phase of reconstruction and stability.

In this context, Mohammed Hajo, a member of the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee, emphasized that the return—despite the accompanying challenges—represents a crucial step toward preserving the city's identity and addressing the consequences of displacement and demographic change.

He stressed the importance of uniting the residents' efforts to ensure the success of this phase and to secure a safe, dignified return for the displaced, enabling the city to be rebuilt and restored.

Mohammed Hajo noted that the city's residents have maintained their bond with their hometown despite years of displacement and harsh conditions, adding that the hope for return is now stronger than ever.

He pointed out that the displaced population has endured difficult and inhumane conditions over the past years, and that ending their suffering requires the successful execution of the return process.

He emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity among the displaced, noting that this would be the most critical factor at this stage.

He added that preparations for the return of displaced persons to Serêkaniyê are ongoing and that the Internal Security Forces of Hasaka and Serêkaniyê will provide protection for those returning, although the specific nature of the aid to be provided has not yet been fully clarified.

Hajo concluded his remarks with a message to the people of Serêkaniyê, urging them to hold fast to the hope of returning: "Your city awaits you once more, and you will return to it with great hope; Serêkaniyê is our city, and it will remain ours until the very end."

According to those overseeing the return process, an initial group of 647 families is scheduled to return this week.
