Security forces prevent anti-violence rally in Jableh

The Syrian coast is witnessing escalating tensions after security forces prevented a protest in Jableh, organized to demand better security and in response to the rising incidents of kidnappings and killings.

Internal security forces affiliated with the Syrian transitional government prevented a protest organized by residents of rural Jableh to demand improved security in the region and to protest the ongoing kidnappings targeting civilians, particularly women, as well as the rise in killings and arbitrary detentions, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The city of Tartous saw a heavy deployment of "public security" forces today following calls for protests in various areas of the Syrian coast, in response to the continued kidnappings targeting civilians, especially women, and the increase in killings and arbitrary detentions.

These calls come amid growing public anger over the involvement of elements from the Ministries of Defense and Interior in liquidation operations, and the authorities' failure to curb these incidents that threaten societal security and fuel public discontent.

Meanwhile, several local activists demanded the withdrawal of any foreign members or extremist factions from the coastal areas to avoid exploiting the situation and escalating tensions, amid a state of cautious unrest and fears among residents of potential security.
