SDF recalled its fighters who martyred in crash of 2 helicopters in S Kurdistan
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) recalled nine of its fighters who were martyred after the crash of two helicopters carrying them to Sulaymaniyah in S Kurdistan, and renewed their pledge to develop their combat and defense capabilities and continue to confront attempts at occupation and terrorism.
Today, the Syrian Democratic Forces issued a statement published on its official website, in which it remembered the fighters "Sherfan Kobani, Didar Derik, Farashin Baran, Harun Rojava, Dogan Afrin, Hoger Derik, Kocher Dirk, Zrujnk Rifaat and Khabat Derbasiya," on the second anniversary of their martyrdom.
" With pride and honor, we commemorate the martyrdom of nine heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives on this day two years ago. Among them was the commander of our Anti-Terrorism Units (YAT) , Shervan Kobani. Alongside him, eight of our brave fighters—Dedar Derik, Farashin Baran, Harun Rojava, Dogan Afrin, Hogir Derik, Kocher Derik, Rojnik Rif’at, and Khabat Darbasiyah—were martyred in a tragic helicopter crash while en route to Sulaymaniyah in southern Kurdistan for a mission to combat terrorism.
Our martyrs were integral to the broader struggle undertaken by our forces at every stage of the resistance in northern and eastern Syria. Comrade and Units commander Shervan Kobani was among the early founders of the Anti-Terrorism Units (YAT) and played a decisive role in leading military campaigns against the terrorist organization ISIS. His contributions were vital in coordinating with the International Coalition forces, spearheading numerous special operations against ISIS leaders, and confronting dangers on the front lines.
His martyred comrades were among the most skilled fighters in special operations targeting ISIS cells and emirs. They played a crucial role in maintaining regional security and stability, conducting precise operations alongside the International Coalition forces. Their unmatched courage, sacrifice, and dedication to the cause of freedom and dignity remain an inspiration to all.
The threats to our regions have not subsided. As we continue to combat the remnants of ISIS and safeguard the hard-earned achievements of our people, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries persist in their aggressive attacks against both civilians and fighters. For over three months, our Anti-Terrorism Units (YAT) have heroically defended against Turkish aggression on various fronts in northern and eastern Syria—particularly in the Tishreen Dam area, the Qara Qwzaq Bridge, and surrounding villages. These ongoing attacks are not just military offensives but calculated attempts to destabilize the region and revive terrorism.
Two years after the martyrdom of our nine comrades, their memory remains deeply ingrained in our hearts and minds. Their unwavering principles—resisting terrorism and occupation while striving for stability and development—continue to motivate us. Thanks to the sacrifices of our martyrs, our forces have achieved historic victories against the world’s most dangerous terrorist organizations, halted the expansion of the occupation, and solidified the foundations of resistance—a model for all peoples yearning for freedom.
We reaffirm to our people and the world that the Anti-Terrorism Units (YAT) will remain steadfast in following the path of our martyrs, defending the revolution’s achievements, and confronting all forms of occupation and terrorism.
We, the comrades of Martyr Shervan, pledge to uphold the martyrs’ legacy by strengthening our combat and defense capabilities, escalating the struggle to its highest levels, and continuing to protect our people and their revolution."
