SDF: Damascus continues its attacks despite ceasefire agreement

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) confirmed that mercenaries affiliated with the interim government continue to violate the ceasefire for the second consecutive day. Yesterday alone witnessed 22 violations targeting the areas of Kobani, Hasakah, and al-Aqtan Prison in Raqqa. They also cut off water and electricity to the city of Kobani.

Today, the Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces issued a statement regarding attacks carried out by mercenaries of the interim government on the areas of Kobani and al-Aqtan Prison in Raqqa. The statement read:

“Despite the ceasefire agreement being in effect, Damascus-affiliated factions continue their attacks on the areas of Kobani and al-Aqtan Prison in Raqqa.

Simultaneously with the shelling of al-Aqtan Prison, which houses members of the ISIS terrorist organization, these factions targeted the surroundings of the town of Sarrin and attacked the village of ‘Kharous’ south of Kobani using heavy weapons and artillery.

The entire southern and southwestern countryside of Kobani has also been subjected to intense artillery shelling, which is still ongoing at the time of writing this report.

We attach to this statement video footage published by accounts affiliated with these factions, documenting the artillery shelling they are carrying out on areas south of Kobani.

This constitutes a violation of the ceasefire for the second consecutive day, as yesterday also witnessed 22 violations committed by these factions, targeting the areas of Kobani, Hasakah, and al-Aqtan Prison.

In addition to the military attacks, Damascus continues its policy of collective punishment by cutting off water and electricity to the city of Kobani and preventing the entry of fuel amid harsh winter conditions.

At the same time, water supplies to al-Aqtan Prison in Raqqa continue to be cut off, posing a direct threat to the lives of detainees and warning of serious humanitarian consequences.

We hold Damascus fully responsible for these ongoing violations and affirm that the continued targeting of populated areas and sensitive facilities, including detention sites holding ISIS members, constitutes a serious threat to security and stability.

We also call on the guarantor parties to take immediate and effective measures to halt these violations and ensure full compliance with the ceasefire agreement.
