SDC: Achieving justice for Hevrin Khalaf and conflict' victims is essential step towards building sustainable peace
The Syrian Democratic Council noted that the assassination of Hevrin Khalaf was an attempt to undermine the peaceful political process, and that achieving justice for her and for all victims of the conflict in Syria is an essential step towards achieving sustainable peace in Syria.

On the 5th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Secretary-General of the Future Syria Party, Hevrin Khalaf, the Syrian Democratic Council issued a written statement, reads:
" The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) commemorates a pivotal event regarding the political struggle in Syria. Five years ago, the assassination of Hevrin Khalaf, Secretary-General of the Future Syria Party and a member of the SDC’s Presidential Council, marked a turning point in the Syrian conflict. This tragic event highlighted the immense challenges facing the peace process and democratic transition in Syria.
The tragic loss of this national figure underscores the profound blow suffered by the democratic movement in Syria.
Martyr Hevrin Khalaf was a remarkable model of female leadership, dedicated to the causes of Syrian people and striving to achieve peace, justice, and equality for all the diverse components of Syrian society.
Martyr’s vision for Syria was centered on fostering civil peace. She consistently emphasized her appeal to all ethnic and religious groups within Syrian society. She called for a Syria that serves as a homeland for everyone. Also, she believed that the richness of diversity was the source of the Syrian people’s strength and cohesion.
The heinous crime committed by the Turkish-backed terrorist faction, known as Ahrar al-Sharqiya, represents a flagrant violation of all international norms and covenants. This faction is already listed on international sanctions lists. Additionally, its actions constitute a documented war crime, exposing the true nature of Turkish policies in Syria.
We, as members of the SDC, strongly reaffirm the condemnation of this heinous crime. We emphasize the urgent need to hold the perpetrators accountable and bring them to international justice. Furthermore, we urge the international community to fulfill its moral and legal responsibilities regarding this crime. It is crucial to address the other violations committed by terrorist factions against the Syrian people.
This crime was not just a criminal act; it was an attempt to undermine the peaceful political path adopted by the powers of democratic change in Syria. In light of this critical event, the SDC emphasizes its unwavering commitment to pursuing a peaceful and negotiated political solution for the Syrian crisis.
Achieving justice for Hevrin Khalaf and all victims of the Syrian conflict is essential for building a sustainable peace. Moreover, it is vital to establish the foundations of a democratic and pluralistic state that ensures the rights of all Syrian components."
