The meeting was attended by the Co-Chairs, Laila Qaraman and Mahmoud al-Muslat, along with members of the Presidential Council, to review the implementation of the transitional process commitments and guarantee the rights of all Syrians amid ongoing political challenges.

The discussions focused on political developments in Syria, particularly the parliamentary elections. The Council emphasized that the current electoral process does not reflect the will of the Syrian people nor ensure fair representation for all components, especially women who played a pivotal role during the war and in peacebuilding but continue to face marginalization in decision-making positions.

The SDC affirmed that any electoral process must involve the participation of all Syrians, both inside and outside the country, under international supervision that guarantees integrity and transparency; an essential step toward ending division and achieving a just and lasting peace.

The meeting also addressed the situation in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo, expressing concern over recent military and security movements that were described as clear violations of existing agreements. These breaches were deemed a direct failure by the transitional government to uphold its commitments to protect residents and ensure the neutrality of the two neighborhoods.

The Council reviewed the March 10, 2025 Agreement between the transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), criticizing the evident laxity in its implementation and holding the transitional government accountable for repeated violations. It warned that continued delays jeopardize the chances for a comprehensive national resolution.

The meeting reaffirmed that decentralization is the cornerstone of Syria’s stability and that any political framework failing to uphold this principle will not achieve lasting peace. The Council called for decentralization to be enshrined in all constitutional and transitional stages.

In conclusion, the SDC renewed its call for the transitional government to organize People’s Assembly elections based on standards of transparency and fair representation, and to convene a comprehensive national conference bringing together all Syrian forces to develop a consensual vision for a political solution.

The Council stressed that the coming phase must translate decisions into tangible reality and reaffirmed the SDC’s continued national role in protecting the interests of all Syrians, strengthening civil peace, and advancing toward a democratic, decentralized system that ensures justice and equal citizenship.
