On March 31, millions of voters went to the polls in Northern Kurdistan and Turkey to participate in the local administration elections. The Justice and Development Party and its allies lost many municipalities, and the Republican People's Party and the Equality and Peoples' Democracy Party achieved a major victory.

According to unofficial results; The Justice and Development Party won the municipalities of 12 large cities, 12 cities, 356 districts, and 125 towns.

The co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Saleh Muslim, commented on the course of the elections and the victory achieved by the Equality and Peoples’ Democracy Party to begin his speech, “First of all, we congratulate our people in Bakur Kurdistan on the victory they achieved and returning what was stolen from them. We also assure them that their victory is not only the victory of Bakur Kurdistan, nor is it a victory.” For the Equality and Peoples’ Democracy Party (DEM PARTI), it is a victory for the Kurds and we are all happy with this victory. It is a historic victory, and we hope that it will change the entire stage, especially after the wars and attacks launched against the Kurds and their arrest of Kurdish politicians and mayors of Kurdish municipalities since 2016 and with their attempt to end the presence of the Kurds. The Equality and Peoples' Democracy Party achieved its historic victory in the face of the Justice and Development Party and its attempt to change the results by sending security forces to the Kurdish cities.

The elections were the beginning of the defeat of the Justice and Development Party and its supporters

The co-chair of the Democratic Union Party added, "During these elections that took place and with regard to the numbers achieved, we see that it is the beginning of the defeat of the Justice and Development Party and all those who support it, and those who fight the Kurds. The victory achieved by the Equality and Peoples' Democracy Party is not enough. Everyone must struggle and resist in the face of the policies that.

The victory the opposition achieved was thanks to the Kurds

Saleh Muslim spoke about the messages carried by the opposition’s victory at the expense of the ruling Justice and Development Party: He continued, “Without a doubt, the international community is watching what is happening in Turkey closely, and Erdogan has always said that his party is the ruling party and they are in complete control of Turkey, but yesterday we noticed that the opposition it was the one who achieved the greatest victory, and that was a message to the international community that the Justice and Development Party is not the ruling party in Turkey.”

He added: "There is no doubt that the victory achieved by the opposition is thanks to the Kurds and their support for them in the large provinces by casting their votes for the opposition. The defeat of the Justice and Development Party in the large provinces was due to the influence of the Equality and Peoples' Democracy Party (DEM PARTI) in Turkey, and there is no doubt that the United Nations and society The international community that sent its observers to Turkey knows very well the corruption carried out by the Justice and Development Party, so what we hope is to stand up to it and stop their violations in Turkey.”

The Kurds demand peace

Saleh Muslim pointed out that the Kurds, wherever they are, want the brotherhood of peoples and to live in peace and do not want to live in enmity with anyone, and he stated: “What we noticed during the past period is that the Equality and Peoples’ Democracy Party there embraced the rest of the components and were on its side. Therefore, what we hope for from our brothers in Bakur is to struggle and define their project.” This is what we are also working on in Rojava and it is a continuation of our project.”

They have lost a lot since they started the war against the Kurds

Saleh Muslim considered that the local elections and their results would have a major impact in Turkey, North and Kurdistan, and said: “They did not accept a solution to the Kurdish issue in Turkey and gathered fascism and mercenaries around them, and today they are bankrupt and have lost a lot.”

Kurdish unity and resistance will fail all policies

Saleh Muslim noted during his speech, saying, “Without a doubt, and as we said, what happened during the elections is the beginning of the defeat of the Justice and Development Party, but everything does not lie in the elections. Today, their extremist ideology and those who benefit from their war against us will not abandon this war, and this war is linked to the extent of our people’s adherence, unity, and struggle.” At all levels, wherever they may be, in the face of these policies, these elections proved to our people that resistance leads to victory, and it also served as a message to those who are trying to end the existence of the Kurds, that they will not be able to do that no matter what happens.”

The co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Saleh Muslim, concluded his speech, "We congratulate our people once again on this victory, but this is not enough. Our people can struggle harder. Yes, it is a historic victory, but we demand that our people continue their struggle and resistance."
