Russian forces announced the establishment of a new observation post off the so-called "disengagement" zone between Damascus government forces and the Israeli army in the occupied Golan in Southern Syria.

The new Russian observation point comes amid high tension in several regions and countries (Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Israel).

The new Russian observation post is located above the "Tal Ahmar" site along the "Bravo" line, which defines the east bank of the zone of separation of forces between the forces of the Damascus government and the Israeli army, and this zone, which was established in accordance with the United Nations resolution issued in 1974 after the cessation of the "October War" in 1973, is concerned with determining the positions of the forces of the Damascus government and the Israeli army on both sides of the "buffer zone".

The deputy commander of the Russian forces in Syria, General Alexander Rodionov, told a Russian agency, "Today we opened a point belonging to the Russian forces along the separation of forces strip in the Quneitra region in Southern Syria, in the context of the agreements to maintain the non-violation of the UN 'disengagement' zone, and that the assigned forces are the "tank battalion" of the Russian military police."

The Russian official said that this point is the eighth opened by the Russian army in the "disengagement" zone, but local sources confirmed that Russian forces are stationed at 17 points in the area adjacent to the occupied Syrian Golan, in Quneitra, Daraa and Damascus countryside.
