Residents of Kobani have complained about rising prices of essential goods and transportation costs following an increase in diesel prices. They said their declining purchasing power has limited their ability to meet daily needs and heightened their concerns about the difficulty of securing heating as winter approaches.

Jamila Ali said, “The cost of living keeps increasing year after year, and the prices of everything are rising at an outrageous rate. Life here has become extremely difficult, and nothing is the way it used to be.”

She pointed out that “rising diesel prices place a heavy burden on low-income families, especially as they struggle to secure heating fuel. Many families lack the financial means and are unable to afford diesel or other heating options.”

Meanwhile, Hanan Oso said the increase in diesel prices had affected the prices of goods and transportation, weakening residents’ ability to meet their basic needs.

“We are working extremely hard just to earn enough to get through each day,” he added. “Since diesel prices went up, transportation costs have been consuming half of what we earn in a single day.”

Oso called on the transitional government to reduce diesel prices and restore them to their previous levels. He also expressed concern about the difficulty of affording heating and covering his children’s expenses during the winter.

For his part, Hassan Biro said the diesel price increase had driven up prices in local markets, including those of imported goods, placing additional pressure on residents.

He noted that people were struggling to balance their living expenses with the cost of securing diesel for the winter. “We had hoped the situation would improve, but unfortunately, things have not turned out as we wished.”

Biro urged the government and relevant authorities to find swift solutions to rising fuel prices and reduce the cost of diesel to ease the financial burden on residents.
