Zerghan, a city situated in the north of al-Hasakah, has lately seen the resumption of the normal life after the agreement signed on January 29 between the Syrian Democratic Forces SDF and the Interim Government. Yet, the city is still struggling with a scarcity of basic services, along with the destruction of many villages and houses.

In this respect, Abdul Aziz Al-Muhajri, Co-Chair of the Zerghan City Council said to ANHA's agency: "The situation in Zerghan city has improved to some extent, because the attacks have stopped and the returnees are coming back home. However, the city is still suffering from many difficulties, and foremost of them is the lack of essential services and power outages."

Further he explained: "Currently, about 75% of the population has come back to Zerghan. The returnees' percentage in some of the villages of Zerghan has reached almost 60%. Still, there are some villages which have been totally demolished, and it hinders the return of some displaced people."

Moreover, he said that the City Council was able to surmount the majority of the problems regarding the provision of electricity in the city center of Zerghan: "Most of the electrical problems have been solved in the city; currently, we are in contact with the Energy Office for repairing the power networks in the villages of Zerghan. In addition, we are in cooperation with the People's Municipality for ensuring the water supplies of the residents."

He explained that the Council is making every effort and utilizing all available resources to provide basic services to the residents of the villages, with the aim of easing the burden on families returning to their homes.

Concluding his remarks, he stressed: "The scale of destruction inflicted on the city of Zerghn and its surrounding villages remains immense, making urgent intervention by humanitarian and relief organizations essential. Humanitarian organizations must intensify their efforts in the area and provide support and assistance to the population in order to alleviate the consequences of destruction and displacement, and to help residents rebuild their lives and restore stability."
