Today, hundreds of residents from the city of Jalabiya, along with representatives from the Euphrates Canton Council, the Democratic Islam Conference, and various religious and spiritual communities, gathered in the village of Kojakmit, south of Jalabiya in the Euphrates Canton, to celebrate Red Wednesday with the Yazidi community.

The celebration began with a speech by Farhan Haj Issa, the Co-Chair of the Euphrates Canton Council, who congratulated the Yazidi people on their holiday. He highlighted that the Yazidi people have long faced genocide and killings because of their beliefs and their deeply rooted cultural heritage.

He emphasized that communities embracing democratic thought and coexistence have rejected such mentalities, enabling all Syrians to live in peace and security.

Adnan Alawi, spokesperson for the Democratic Islam Conference, stated that certain agendas aim to distort the image of Islam, as seen when some countries supported ISIS mercenaries who brought destruction and massacres upon the Yazidi people in Shengal.

He affirmed that the teachings of Islam are inclusive and do not oppose other religions.

Meanwhile, Georges Elias, the Christian representative from the city of Tabqa, said, “The celebration of our Yazidi brothers coincides with our celebrations of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. These are holidays of rebirth and renewal, so the message of all religions should be to spread true peace and love.”

The speeches were followed by artistic performances presented by cultural centers from Kobani, Serrin, and Jalabiya, showcasing the heritage and authenticity of the region's people.
