Residents of towns and regions across al-Jazira Canton in North and East Syria today commemorated the “World Day of Solidarity with the Resistance of Kobanî,” emphasizing that this resistance transcended geographical borders to become a universal emblem of resilience.

Tel Tamer and Zirghan

In the city of Tel Tamer, alongside residents of Zirghan, people marked the “World Solidarity Day with Kobanî” with participation from civil society organizations, women’s groups, the Revolutionary Youth Movement, families of martyrs, and tribal elders.

Issa al-Rajab, the commander with the Tell Tamer Military Council, stressed in his speech that this day is not merely a remembrance, but a reaffirmation of the ongoing path of resistance against all forms of occupation and aggression—particularly Turkish policies seeking to destabilize North and East Syria.

He noted, “The resistance of Kobanî did not triumph by arms alone, but through thought, willpower, and the people’s belief in the justice of their cause,” underscoring the importance of unity among the region’s communities and the need for solidarity with all Syrian cities facing oppression and displacement.

The celebration included artistic and musical performances by the “Shorsh” Band of the Tel Tamer Culture and Art Center, reflecting the spirit of victory and belonging. The event concluded with chants honoring the Kobanî resistance: “Kobanî will remain the flag of freedom—Kobanî did not bow.”

Girkê Legê

In Girkê Legê, the Democratic Union Party (PYD) issued a statement affirming that the Kobanî resistance marked the beginning of the defeat of “terrorism” and the unity of peoples under the principle of democratic brotherhood, on the occasion of “World Day of Solidarity with Kobanî.”

The statement described “World Kobanî Day” as a victory for peoples and a day when human will was inscribed in history—when Kobanî transformed from a small town in northern Syria into a symbol of resistance and dignity through its triumph over evil.

It emphasized that the Battle of Kobanî was not just a military confrontation, but a struggle between the values of life and death, during which peoples of diverse origins united in defense of their land.

The statement noted that the spark of ISIS’s defeat began in Kobanî, spread to Grî Spî and Manbij, and reached al-Baghuz, adding that Kobanî’s victory was achieved not only through military power but also through faith and values of justice and equality.

The Kurdish woman played a vital role in this battle, through the heroism of Arin Mirkan and her comrades.

It concluded: “On World Kobanî Day, we celebrate the triumph of human values over darkness, and the birth of renewed hope and freedom—Kobanî’s victory is a victory for everyone who believes in dignity and humanity.”
