PYD marks 23rd anniversary, highlights Kurdish rights and unity

The meeting was held at the Aram Dikran Center for Culture and Art in Rimelan, a town in the countryside of Tirbespiye, and was attended by residents of Tirbespiye, Rimelan and Tel Koçer, representatives of political parties, and members of various institutions.

The meeting began with a minute of silence in honor of those martyred, followed by several speeches addressing the Democratic Union Party’s journey and the various stages of its political and organizational work.

Speaking about the party’s 23-year journey, PYD administrator Berivan Yusuf recalled those who had lost their lives in the struggle for their cause and people. She said their sacrifices formed part of the Kurdish movement’s journey and stressed that remembering them was linked to continuing work on the causes for which they fought.

She said recognizing Kurdish rights did not mean dividing Syria, but could instead serve as a basis for building a Syria in which all its components and peoples enjoy equal rights. She added that recognizing Kurdish identity begins with recognizing the Kurdish language and culture.

Mohammed Jamil, speaking on behalf of the Council of Martyrs’ Families, addressed the party’s journey and the sacrifices made along the way. He said those who lost their lives had left behind a legacy and a responsibility for those continuing political and social work.

He stressed the importance of continuing along the path followed by those who lost their lives, preserving the achievements made over the past years, and continuing to work for society and its concerns.

Idris Jajan, a member of the Central Committee of the Kurdish Democratic Progressive Party in Syria, addressed the political situation in Syria, stressing the importance of the participation of all components in political life and in shaping the country’s future, as well as ensuring their rights.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening coordination among Kurdish parties and political forces and unifying their positions, saying that Kurdish parties, figures and institutions should work together amid the political circumstances facing Syria.

Fakher Ali, a member of the Kurdish Democratic Unity Party in Syria (Yekiti), spoke about the importance of coexistence among Syria’s various components. He stressed the need for Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians and other communities to live together away from wars and conflicts.

He also highlighted the importance of solidarity among the people of the region and continuing joint efforts, stressing that cohesion among the components of society forms a basis for maintaining stability and strengthening coexistence.

The meeting also featured a video presentation on the history of the PYD since its establishment and the main stages of its journey.

The event concluded with participants chanting, “Martyrs are immortal.”
