On Sunday, locals of Taqad staged popular protests, calling for Turkish troops to leave the homes they had seized in the town.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), protesters threw stones at a Turkish military post during the demonstration and placed rubber tires at its entrance in an attempt to block access for the soldiers.

Turkish forces responded by firing tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators, amid heightened alert among the mercenaries deployed in the area.

As of now, no confirmed reports have emerged regarding injuries among civilians or soldiers as a result of the clashes, the SOHR reported.
