Proposal to form a legal body in the Arab world to defend leader Abdullah Ocalan

The Vice-President of the Arab Centre for Political and Strategic Studies considered that there were deficiencies in legal instruments and that a committee should be formed at the level of courts with general or international competence. On October 10, 2023, global grassroots events and events in support of leader Abdullah Ocalan's freedom were launched in over 100 cities around the world under the slogan "Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, Political Solution to the Kurdish Issue".

The Vice-President of the Arab Centre for Political and Strategic Studies, Mukhtar Gbashi, a participant in the global campaign, spoke to ANHA agency: "The global campaign is linked to Abdullah Ocalan's freedom, which has symbolism for the Kurdish cause and the Kurdish people as a whole."

Mukhtar Gbashi stated: "In the trial in which he was sentenced (leader Abdullah Ocalan) to imprisonment, the logic of justice and even his right to hope, for a retrial, is unavailable, and there are too many limitations on it."

Gbashi noted: "There is no contact between leader Abdullah Ocalan, his lawyer and his family, which is very important to highlight and requires more events of its own."

The Turkish authorities are imposing strict isolation on leader Abdullah Ocalan, and the last contact with him was, on March 25, 2021, a telephone call with his brother Mohammed Ocalan that lasted for less than 5 minutes before he was cut off.

Gbachi suggested: "The need to form a legal body at the Arab world level, if not at the international level, and to select certain personalities from each State or from everywhere. Ultimately, there is a legal group that begins a process of legal movement, along with a media and political group; to highlight this injustice to leader Abdullah Ocalan ", emphasizing its importance.

In Gbachi's view, there were deficiencies in the legal instruments taken in this regard, and he stressed: "A committee must be formed to meet periodically and at certain times; to examine the legal acts and actions taken, and what is hoped for, and whether new actions are being taken within Turkey, at the level of Brussels and the European Union, and at the level of courts of general or international jurisdiction and others, and these are very important and desirable.
