Incidents of killings caused by both stray and targeted gunfire are on the rise in several areas under the authority of the interim government in Syria. This reflects a state of rampant lawlessness and lack of accountability, compounding residents’ fears over the escalation of armed violence against the backdrop of the prevailing fragile security situation.

In the city of Manbij, a young man died after being struck by stray bullets while passing through the “Jilawi” neighborhood, the result of random gunfire. The incident once again highlighted the widespread presence of weapons and the prevailing atmosphere of disorder in the city.

The tragedy provoked public outrage, with residents demanding that authorities curb the carrying of weapons and hold perpetrators accountable for these recurring tragedies.

In the city of Salhab in western Hama countryside, a man and his son—members of the Alawite community—were killed inside their home after it was stormed by an armed unit affiliated with the General Security.

The force opened direct fire on them for reasons that remain unknown. The crime sparked public discontent, amid mounting accusations that security groups are committing repeated violations against civilians without restraint or accountability.

Meanwhile, in the city of Douma in Eastern Ghouta, Damascus countryside, a 34-year-old man was killed inside his shop in the vegetable market, shot directly by another man over a financial dispute.

The incident exemplifies the prevalence of arms and the tendency to settle disputes through armed force.

In another shocking incident, a resident of Zibdin in Eastern Ghouta was executed in broad daylight, after masked gunmen fired nearly thirty bullets at him before fleeing the scene.

The crime reflects the growing wave of retaliatory assassinations that have become a daily reality, signaling the prospect of further chaos and the collapse of what remains of stability.
