The drivers announced their work stoppage in protest against what they described as the loss of their financial rights between the concerned authorities and representatives, calling on the government to intervene to ensure their payments are made directly without intermediaries.

In video clips posted on social media, the drivers said they are working under difficult conditions due to damaged roads and bridges, in addition to the burdens resulting from currency replacement procedures. They stressed that current transport fees do not cover the costs of maintaining and repairing their tankers.

They said they have spent more than five days waiting for a response to their demands, emphasizing that the goal of the strike is to secure a fair mechanism that guarantees their rights, not to disrupt oil transportation operations. They expressed readiness to resume work once their demands are met.

No official comment has been issued so far by the relevant authorities regarding the drivers’ demands or the strike.

This is not the first time Deir ez-Zor province has witnessed protests linked to delayed payments or demands for workers’ rights. In recent months, employees at water stations, teachers and other workers have held protests demanding salary payments and improved conditions. The province also witnessed protests yesterday over the lack of the new currency in markets and the expiration of the deadline for replacing the old currency.
