The Imrali delegation of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) issued a statement on Monday regarding its visit to Imrali Island and meeting with Abdullah Ocalan. The statement included:

“As the Imrali delegation of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party, we held a meeting with Mr. Abdullah Ocalan on Imrali Island on September 13, 2026.

During the meeting, we discussed the current situation in Turkey, the development of a democratic solution and lasting peace, concrete steps that need to be taken to move the process forward, as well as regional developments.

Below is a summary of Mr. Abdullah Ocalan’s assessments addressed to the public.

The Peace and Democratic Society process is at a stage that requires the historical responsibilities to be fulfilled swiftly. In the period following the adoption of the law, it is of great importance to take joint practical steps in line with these responsibilities and to begin concrete work on a reciprocal basis.

My goal is to achieve peace and democratic politics. Peace means laying down arms, while politics means democratic politics and a democratic society.

Turkey has a historic opportunity before it. I hope and believe that everyone will act with this awareness so that we can achieve lasting peace and a democratic solution. An urgent responsibility is to ensure that the will for peace is not left without a foundation, and to guarantee it through concrete legal and political arrangements.

The Peace and Democratic Society process aims to ensure that all peoples and faiths in the Middle East live together in peace, freedom and equality.

The developments in the region clearly show that the process is based on delicate balances and that these developments have a direct impact on it. Therefore, in order to prevent potential provocations, it is important to resolve the region’s problems through dialogue and negotiations. Developments in Rojava should also be assessed within this framework.”

As the Imrali delegation of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), we reaffirm that Mr. Abdullah Ocalan’s fundamental approach is to consolidate peace, strengthen democratic politics and democratize Turkey.

The path to peace is open, and the time has come to translate political will into practical steps to move this path forward.

Respectfully,

The Imrali Delegation of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party

September 14, 2026.”
