North and East Syria commemorates 47th anniversary of PKK founding

Residents of cities in the North and East Syria marked this evening the 47th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) through public events that included visits to the martyrs’ shrines, lighting candles on their tombs.

Cities across the North and East Syria witnessed large public events this evening on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which falls on November 27.

Most of the events took a commemorative tone, with residents visiting the martyrs’ shrines in the region and lighting candles on their tombs as a symbolic expression of loyalty to their sacrifices.

In some cities, the celebrations also included car parades, raising flags, singing national songs, and dancing to their tunes in the streets, amid a festive atmosphere.

The PKK was founded on November 27, 1978, following a struggle that began in 1973 under the leadership of Abdullah Ocalan, initially known as “The Apoists.” Over more than five decades, the party has left its mark on numerous initiatives and events in Kurdistan, the Middle East, and globally.

In the “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” issued by Abdullah Ocalan last February 27, he stated that the party had fulfilled its role and that the struggle was entering a new phase.

The party responded to this call by holding its 12th congress from May 5 to 7, during which it announced its dissolution and the end of armed struggle, once again placing it at the center of regional and global attention.
