After the Mothers of Peace in Raqqa lit the Newroz flame, coinciding with the participants observing a minute of silence, the organized celebration began in the municipal stadium in central Raqqa, with the participation of thousands of people, in addition to tribal sheikhs and notables, a delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, and a delegation from the Syrian Democratic Council, members of the Democratic Peoples’ Council, and members of the Zenobia Women’s Assembly Council in Raqqa canton.

During the celebration, the co-chair of the Executive Council in Raqqa, Hevin Ismail, gave a speech in which she welcomed the attendees, and congratulated “all the members of our Kurdish people and all the other components of the Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians, Turkmens and Circassians, with the coming of Newroz.

She emphasized: “We in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Raqqa accompanied by our resistant people, are continuing our peaceful democratic societal struggle to build a free, united and united society in the face of injustice and restrictions, we are also working to remove all forms of discrimination between members of society on the basis of the philosophy of Democratic Nation.

She added: “ This year will be a new phase of the struggle to reach a pluralistic and decentralized Syria and end occupation."

On behalf of the Democratic Peoples’ Council in Raqqa , the co-chair of the Council, Khaled Barkal, blessed the arrival of Newroz for all the Kurdish people and the people of the region in general.

Barkal added: “On Newroz, the first day of spring, and on the day of freedom, struggle and struggle, we return to 4,000 thousand years ago, when the Aryan peoples celebrated this day, and with the blacksmith Kawa lighting the flame of Newroz against the empire of oppression, and on March 21 of each year, the era of Resistance and the culture of freedom against all forms of injustice and persecution.”

Barkal continued his speech by saying: “The oppressed Kawa of the era, Dogan and his companions called out loudly: No to injustice, and we will not surrender, because surrender is betrayal, resistance is life, and life is resistance.

At the end of his speech, Khaled Barkal paid tribute to the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and saluted "our forces stationed on the front lines who are defending the territories of NE Syria."

For her part, Buthaina Abdo, the member of the Council of the Zenobia Women’s Group in Raqqa, said: “On March 21, our people celebrate Newroz, the Day of Freedom, and on this historic occasion the will of the people is renewed in their ambition for liberation and peace.”

She praised the steadfastness of the people of North and East Syria in the face of the attacks of the Turkish occupation state on the region.

Abdo confirmed that the people of NE Syria are fighting an existential battle and are resisting all the conspiracies being hatched against them and on all battlefields.

Abdo stressed by saying: “We will make Newroz 2024 a year to physically liberate the leader, because achieving freedom and democracy is possible through the freedom of the leader. The flame of Kawa Al-Haddad is still burning in our soul, and we hope that Newroz will be the beginning of a new phase of struggle, love, and peace until we reach a democratic Syria.”

The people of Raqqa continue to celebrate Newroz, and many cultural, singing and theatrical performances are scheduled to be presented.
