Within the framework of coordination between the Democratic Autonomous Administration in the NE Syria, and the Committee on Migration and Displacement in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, a new batch of Iraqi families living in Al-Hol camp, south of the city of Hasaka in Al-Jazira Canton, was returned today.

The new batch, the fourth batch since the beginning of this year and being returned to Iraq, included 155 families, comprising about 594 people.

Iraqi refugees are being transferred by the Iraqi authorities to Jada'ah camp in Nineveh province.

This is the 21st batch of Iraqis returned from al-Hol camp to Iraq since 2022.

Originally set up to house Iraqi refugees in early 1991 during the Second Gulf War, the camp was later reopened after Iraqis poured into Syria following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, as one of three camps on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

With the onset of the Syrian crisis, ISIS mercenaries occupied the camp and used it as a transit point between Syria and Iraq, until the SDF liberated it in 2016, when the camp received displaced Syrians fleeing battles between the regime and militants seeking power.

After the elimination of ISIS mercenaries in its last stronghold in the town of Baghouz, in the spring of 2019, Iraqi families and families of ISIS mercenaries moved there.

Al-Hol camp is a ticking time bomb, because it houses thousands of women ISIS mercenaries and tens of thousands of their children, most of whom almost reach adulthood, which is a ready-made army that ISIS mercenaries are always trying to reach.

According to the latest statistics of the administration of Al-Hol camp, the camp includes 4,371 Syrian families numbering 15,861 people, 4,505 Iraqi families numbering 15,681 people, and 1,897 foreign families numbering 6,385 people.
