NE Syria and Damascus issue joint statement after talks

On Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 20:15, a formal meeting was held in the capital, Damascus, between a delegation from Northeast Syria and a delegation from the Damascus Authority, as part of ongoing efforts to implement the agreement signed on March 10 between the leadership of the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Damascus Authority.

A joint statement was issued following the meeting, outlining agreed-upon points after discussions on several issues of mutual interest. The parties also agreed to schedule a follow-up session in the near future to continue deliberations and monitor the implementation of the agreed measures.

The text of the joint statement reads as follows:

"In the context of efforts to enhance mutual understanding and implement concluded agreements, the first session was convened between representatives of North and East Syria and the Central Committee tasked with finalizing the agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces, in a positive and constructive atmosphere.

The two parties discussed a range of issues of mutual concern and reached agreement on the following:

1- The formation of specialized subcommittees to oversee the implementation of the March 10 agreement, signed between the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, and the Head of the Transitional Government, Ahmad al-Sharaa.

 2- Efforts to resolve outstanding issues related to examinations and testing centers, ensuring the rights of students and the integrity of the educational process.

 3- Exploration of mechanisms to facilitate the return of displaced persons to their areas and the removal of obstacles hindering their return.

 4- Reactivation of efforts to address the situation in the neighborhoods of al-Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud, with the aim of promoting stability and civil peace.

 Both parties reaffirm their commitment to constructive dialogue and ongoing cooperation in a manner that serves Syria’s unity and sovereignty, and fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people for security and stability.

It was further agreed to schedule a subsequent session in the near future to continue discussions and follow up on the implementation of the agreed measures."
