MSD: Saving Syrian people from their living crisis is foundation of any future political process

The Syrian Democratic Council issued a statement today regarding the living and economic conditions in Syria, noting:

"The issue of livelihood, food security, and health has become a top national priority that cannot be postponed or delayed, given the rapidly deteriorating living and economic conditions in various Syrian regions, and the widespread and legitimate public discontent that reflects people's daily struggles to secure basic necessities."

The statement added: "The humanitarian and living conditions in various areas, from Kobani to Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa, passing through Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, and reaching the capital Damascus and various Syrian governorates, have become a dangerous indicator of the depth of the economic crisis that threatens national and social stability and exacerbates the suffering of citizens, especially in light of exorbitant prices, declining purchasing power, lack of job opportunities, rising unemployment, and unprecedented levels of destitution and poverty in the country's history."

It pointed out that "the continuation of government policies that restrict economic activity or impose forms of siege on some areas, along with the absence of urgent economic and relief plans, the lack of price controls on goods and commodities, the increase in monopolies, and the rise in bread, electricity, and energy prices, are exacerbating the burdens on the people and deepening the state of popular frustration and despair."

In its statement, the Council called on "the interim government and all executive bodies to take immediate action to develop clear economic rescue plans, with the primary goal of protecting citizens, ensuring their food and health security, and providing basic commodities at prices commensurate with people's income levels."

The Council also emphasized that responding to legitimate popular demands must be done with a spirit of national responsibility, through fair and comprehensive economic policies that consider the specific circumstances of each region and guarantee non-discrimination in the distribution of resources and services. This will contribute to alleviating the severity of the crisis and rebuilding trust between society and relevant institutions.

It stressed that a genuine solution to the cost-of-living crisis requires broad national cooperation and a serious political will that prioritizes the citizen's interest above all else and works to protect their dignity and right to a safe and dignified life.

The Council reiterated its call to all national and social forces to work together to overcome this difficult phase and consolidate the values ​​of solidarity and shared responsibility. This stems from our belief that rescuing the Syrian people from their economic hardship is the foundation of any future political process aimed at building a free, stable, and just Syria that guarantees a dignified life for all its citizens.
