Public reactions continue against the isolation imposed on leader Abdullah Ocalan, with growing calls for his physical freedom so that he can play his role in the "Peace and Democratic Society Process" that he launched on February 27, 2025.

In this context, ANHA interviewed administrative figures and members of the Martyrs' Families Council in the town of Girkê Legê in the Jazira region.

Idris Mal Sharif, an official in the Democratic Union Party (PYD), said that the isolation imposed on leader Ocalan is "an isolation imposed on the entire Kurdish people" and aims to undermine their collective will.

He noted that despite spending 27 years in prison, leader Ocalan continues to advocate peace, dialogue, and resolving issues through mutual understanding and coexistence, rather than violence and war.

He added that leader Ocalan is the key to peace in the region and has consistently reaffirmed in meetings with visiting delegations his commitment to a peaceful solution, calling on the Turkish state to seize this opportunity because, in his view, the conflict cannot be resolved through force but through dialogue.

For her part, Fatima Omar, a member of the Martyrs' Families Council in Girkê Legê, said that the Turkish state has offered various justifications regarding leader Ocalan's release but has taken no practical steps, even after the initiatives put forward to support the peace process.

She stressed that leader Ocalan seeks to resolve issues through dialogue and peace, adding that his freedom represents the freedom of the Kurdish people. She called on Turkey to take serious steps to end his isolation and secure his physical freedom.

Meanwhile, Hevin Mohammed Sharif, another member of the Martyrs' Families Council, condemned the continuation of leader Ocalan's isolation, saying that although he has repeatedly called for peace in the region, Turkey has not responded to those appeals.

She concluded by saying that the families of the martyrs are demanding leader Ocalan's physical freedom so that he can be among his people, asserting that his freedom represents the freedom of the Kurdish people.
