A member of the Friends of Kidney Patients Association in Sweida said that acidic materials and substances for sterilizing dialysis machines are lacking.

She considered this not a usual problem, but a catastrophic one that can entirely paralyze the kidney department. She indicated that there is a systematic policy pursued by the transitional government against the health sector, appealing to people of conscience, she said, to speed up finding a solution to the issue in order to save the lives of kidney patients.

Five deaths have been recorded as a result of delayed dialysis sessions, the local media reported. This siege obstructs the supply of essential medicines through the central drug warehouses and permits the entry of supplies only from organizations through the one crossing from Daraa to Sweida. The Damascus-Sweida road remains closed by transitional government forces.

The Kidney Patients Friends Association has appealed to the people of Sweida, expatriates, and concerned organizations to help provide the necessary acid and substance to sterilize the dialysis machines as quickly as possible.
