In a scene described as historic, for the first time in 26 years of captivity on Imrali Island, Leader Abdullah Ocalan issued a filmed appeal to the region's peoples as part of the Peace and Democratic Society Initiative launched on February 27 this year.

His words carried deep political and humanitarian messages, emphasizing the need for "practical steps" and describing the current phase as "historic and decisive," requiring an end to conflicts and a commitment to dialogue, freedom, and dignity.

With the release of this filmed appeal yesterday, deep emotions swept through the residents of Tel Tamer in Jazira Canton. They expressed profound admiration for the Leader’s words, viewing his public appearance after over a quarter-century in isolation as a new spark of hope to revive the peace process and the societal democracy project.

Every word from him is a compass guiding us

In field interviews conducted by ANHA correspondent, writer and intellectual Idris Al-Younis said: "The Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s appeal is a light in this darkness. Every word from him is a compass guiding us to the right path. Despite the restrictions and imprisonment, his voice still reaches every home and heart. We trust that he alone can restore balance to this turbulent region."

The citizen Jenar Al-Youssef emphasized that the Leader’s words particularly touched women’s hearts, saying: "Every time the Leader issues an appeal, I feel reborn. His message today, after 26 years, restored our hope. We draw our strength from his philosophy. He taught us that women’s freedom is the foundation of societal freedom, and today he reaffirmed that women’s organization is the strongest weapon in the path to liberation.

Kamal Sheikhmos, an elderly resident of the city, expressed his feelings, saying: "At my age, I’ve seen a lot, but since I learned about Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s philosophy, my life changed. He alone can unite us under the banner of peace and resistance. I consider his appeal today a historic document, encapsulating decades of struggle and sacrifice. He never thought of himself but sacrificed for the region’s peoples."

An exceptional moment

Citizen Asrari Al-Taama described the appeal as an exceptional moment in her life, saying: "Every word the Leader said felt directed to me. He sees women as the heart and soul of the revolution, and we see in him hope and dignity. Today’s appeal is the heartbeat of every free woman who believes in her rights and dignity."

Not an ordinary day... but a pivotal moment in memory

The residents agreed that this was not an ordinary day but a pivotal one that will remain etched in memory. The Leader Ocalan’s appearance rekindled hope in their hearts and fueled their determination to continue the struggle for a future of democracy, peace, and justice.
