The Syrian Lawyers Initiative to Defend Leader Abdullah Ocalan, the Lawyers Branch, and the Social Justice Council in Aleppo made a statement about the meeting that brought together Leader Abdullah Ocalan with his nephew, Omar Ocalan. The statement was read in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, by a member of the Syrian Lawyers Initiative to Defend the Leader’s Syrian Coordination Committee for leader Abdullah Ocalan Khaleda Muhammad, in the presence of lawyers and members of the Social Justice Council.

The statement stated: “We have repeatedly stressed that this isolation imposed on the leader Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali prison is a blatant and clear violation of human rights according to Turkish law and human rights charters and laws, and that regular visits to the leader’s family, as well as regular visits by his lawyers and friends, are among those rights.”

The statement referred to the results of the global campaign demanding the freedom of the leader: “The global campaign that was launched under the slogan (physical freedom for leader Abdullah Ocalan; the political solution to the Kurdish issue) had a great impact on global and European public opinion and within Turkey, so this family visit that took place on the 23rd October is one of the results of the global campaign, which has entered its second year.”

The statement stressed that "the physical freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and resolving the Kurdish issue are two complementary and inseparable matters. Defending Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the struggle for his physical freedom is a struggle to resolve all outstanding issues in the Middle East in general in a way that brings him democracy and peace.”

The statement denounced the Turkish occupation's attacks on the region and the targeting of infrastructure, and stressed that they are “a war crime and against humanity."
