Lawyers' Union of NE Syria affirms its support for unified Kurdish position
The Lawyers' Union of North and East Syria indicated that a unified Kurdish position and line is a true gateway to formulating a new social contract that forms the basis for a democratic constitutional project that protects rights and establishes the principles of citizenship, social justice, and the rule of law. The Union affirmed its sincere support and blessing for this unique initiative.
The co-chairs of the Lawyers' Union of North and East Syria issued a statement today regarding the convening of the conference on Kurdish unity in Rojava. The statement read:
"On this historic day in the Syrian national arena, and in light of the achieved unity of free wills and a generous national consensus among various political forces, particularly in the Kurdish arena, the Lawyers' Union of North and East Syria affirms its full support and sincere blessing for this unique initiative, which we see as a true gateway to formulating a new social contract that forms the basis of a democratic constitutional project that protects rights and establishes the principles of citizenship, social justice, and the rule of law.
This blessed step represents a practical embodiment of the free will of society and a response to the aspirations of the Syrian people to build a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized state that protects human dignity and preserves the unity of society in all its components and diversity.
Based on our legal and ethical responsibility as a professional institution that has worked tirelessly over the past years to support judicial institutions and consolidate the rule of law, we affirm our commitment to support every national effort that seeks to unify ranks, end policies of exclusion and marginalization, and achieve justice and equality.
The Union of Lawyers in North and East Syria views this initiative as a strategic step that establishes a comprehensive national path, providing a framework for building a new Syria based on freedom, pluralism, democracy, and decentralization, a state that embraces all its citizens without discrimination and enshrines the rule of law as a guarantee for the protection of public rights and freedoms.
Finally, we pledge to our people to continue our tireless work in serving the causes of justice and rights, and to contribute effectively to building a free and just democratic society.
