Farhan Dawood, an administrator and politician in the office of the Democratic Union Party in the city of Hasakah, explained that solving the crises and issues of the Middle East is linked to resolving the Kurdish issue with the states occupying Kurdistan. He pointed out that some countries that create problems in the region seek to achieve their interests through Kurdish division.

Dawood stressed the importance of national unity in Kurdistan, describing it as a strong shield against plots being woven against the Kurds to serve those countries’ interests. He said:

“This became clear during the recent attacks on Rojava, as the unity of the Kurdish stance in Kurdistan and around the world contributed to stopping a real extermination plan that would have endangered the rest of Kurdistan.”

He added that Kurdish national unity is capable of overturning international equations and plans and forcing global powers to reconsider their policies toward the Kurdish people.

He emphasized that the time has come to unify the position of Kurdish forces in Kurdistan, considering it the only solution to protect the Kurds from further massacres and genocides. He said:

“Unity is an urgent necessity in light of the changes taking place in the world and the Middle East. If the Kurds remain divided, they will continue to be a permanent target for the states occupying Kurdistan, and it will become easier to dominate them.”

He added that the Kurdish people have given everything in pursuit of unity — from fighters and martyrs to taking up arms and crossing borders, along with all that such sacrifices require. He stressed that the responsibility now lies with political parties and Kurdish forces to fulfill their duty, play a real role, and bear the responsibilities placed upon them during these sensitive circumstances facing the region and the world.

He noted that the positions of some Kurdish political parties on unity are still governed by personal and partisan interests, which is evident in their policies and the seriousness of their approach to this issue. He explained that some of those parties are tied to external actors and influenced by their policies.

He also said that some Kurdish parties remain in a gray zone regarding unity — neither close nor far — and are unable to take serious and responsible steps during the critical conditions facing the region. He pointed out that the position of the Kurdish people in Kurdistan and around the world was stronger and bolder than the positions and calculations of political parties during the attacks on Rojava.

Dawood described some of the current movements and discussions by certain political parties regarding unity as “insufficient.”

On the steps required to establish Kurdish unity, he stressed the necessity of holding a Kurdistani National Congress to formulate a political program that defines the broad outlines of the Kurdish cause. He said committees should emerge from it to officially speak on behalf of the Kurdish people in international forums and serve as an umbrella uniting the Kurds.

He affirmed that convening a Kurdistani National Congress would close the door to external interference in the Kurdish issue and prevent dealing individually with political parties, because it would establish broad principles that no party could bypass.

He warned that delaying the convening of the Kurdistani National Congress poses a danger to the Kurdish people and their cause, opens the way for enemies to isolate them, devise schemes against them, and commit further acts of genocide.

He pointed out that among the most prominent obstacles facing the Kurds are foreign interventions that deepen divisions, in addition to the absence of a clear political program among Kurdish and Kurdistani parties, and the failure to hold a Kurdistani congress that clarifies the demands of the Kurdish people.

He affirmed that the Kurdish issue is one and indivisible throughout Kurdistan, because the enemy is one, foremost among them Turkey, and Rojava cannot be separated from South, East, and North Kurdistan. He added:

“If Rojava were to collapse, the next target would be Bashur Kurdistan. Therefore, the strength of any part of Kurdistan protects the other parts.”

He also noted that Turkey cannot be trusted in its positions. Despite the strong trade and diplomatic relations it once had with South Kurdistan, it was among the first opponents of the 2017 independence referendum and sent its forces to the borders of Kurdistan.
