The Coordination of Kongra Star issued a written statement today regarding the killing of the fighter in the Syrian Ministry of Defense, Sami Sheikhmous, known as Siban Huzni, by an armed group, and the popular protests that followed in al-Jazira and Kobani areas, calling for those involved in the crime to be held accountable.

The statement, which was issued in Kurdish and translated into Arabic by ANHA agency, said that the tension that followed the assassination of Siban Huzni in Rojava, and which is deepening day by day, has reached an extremely dangerous stage for the peoples of the region.

The statement pointed out that the escalation of a series of events targeting the sentiments and sensitivities of the Kurdish and Arab peoples and touching upon the most sensitive issues in society, in a manner that could provoke the peoples and drive them into confrontation with one another, cannot be regarded as merely coincidental.

It added that the overall developments, beginning with the assassination of Siban Huzni, have contributed to creating a dangerous environment aimed at placing Kurds and Arabs in confrontation with one another and deepening feelings of anger and hatred among the peoples.

In this context, the statement addressed the events witnessed in Kobani, where a fire broke out inside a prison in which detainees were protesting against racist attacks carried out by the transitional government, resulting in the deaths of nine citizens and the injury of others.

Kongra Star stated that these developments once again confirm the seriousness and sensitivity of the situation, offering its condolences to the families of the victims, wishing the wounded a speedy recovery, and affirming its solidarity with the people of Kobani and all the people of Rojava in their suffering.

The statement considered that the recent events raise important questions regarding the future of the ongoing integration process in Syria. It noted that while this process continues, the proposal put forward by the Kurdish people regarding the use of the Kurdish language continues to face rejection, which has led to an escalation of reactions and community mobilization.

Kongra Star expressed concern that forces opposed to the progress of the integration process may exploit this issue and the existing sensitivities between the peoples to provoke inflammatory incidents, calling for the assassination of Siban Huzni and the developments that followed it in Kobani to be assessed comprehensively and within this context.

The statement stressed the need to reject any policy that exploits the sensitive issues of the Kurdish and Arab peoples, as well as the pain and sensitivities of communities, with the aim of driving the peoples into confrontation with one another.

It added that any attempt to direct the anger and hatred of the peoples against one another targets the future of Syria and the will of the peoples of Rojava to live together, holding the transitional government and forces affiliated with it directly responsible for this course of events.

Kongra Star called for an immediate end to policies of pressure and violence against the peoples and for independent, transparent and fair investigations into all the events that have taken place. It warned that addressing social issues and problems through security agencies would only increase tensions and complicate the situation.

The statement warned that the outbreak of a Kurdish-Arab conflict in Rojava or throughout Syria would serve the interests of none of the peoples of the region, noting that such a conflict could become an opportunity for forces seeking to undermine coexistence, the integration process in Syria, and the possibility of reaching a democratic solution.

Kongra Star specifically called on Arab tribes, dignitaries, influential figures in society and all social actors in the region to exercise the utmost caution and responsibility, stressing the need to prevent any party from becoming a tool for provocation or allowing seeds of hostility to be planted among the peoples.

Kongra Star also issued an appeal to all members of the public and democratic forces, calling for vigilance in the face of provocations, protection of the peoples’ will to live together, and refusal to allow those seeking to drive the peoples into confrontation with one another to exploit the current situation.

It also called on the international public, democratic circles, all forces monitoring developments in the region, and organizations operating in Syria to remain vigilant and adopt clear positions toward developments that threaten coexistence, a democratic solution, and a peaceful future in Rojava and Syria.

The statement stressed that the ongoing developments must not become a cause for the outbreak of new conflicts among the peoples, and that the democratic foundation guaranteeing equal rights for Kurds, Arabs and all the peoples of the region must be protected.

Kongra Star concluded its statement by emphasizing that the future of Rojava and Syria does not lie in conflict among people, but rather in equality, justice, democracy and coexistence.
