Kidnappings surge in Interim government- held areas

A child was seriously injured during an attempted abduction in front of Rateb al-Mousa School by three young men driving a gray car earlier today.

According to local sources, the kidnappers tried to force the child into the car, but he resisted by screaming and fighting back. One of the attackers attempted to push him into the car’s trunk.

During the struggle, the child bit one of the assailants, drawing the attention of nearby students, who began shouting. The attackers fled quickly, running over the child with their car as they escaped. The child was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

In a similar incident, an elderly man, Salah Aslan, a relative of General Ali Aslan, was kidnapped in broad daylight from in front of his home in the Awqaf neighborhood of Latakia by an armed group driving a private vehicle.

Aslan, known for his wealth, had reportedly been under surveillance before the abduction. The kidnappers took him to an unknown location, and video footage clearly shows the abduction taking place.

These repeated incidents reflect the growing security breakdown in areas controlled by the Interim Government, as kidnappings and extortion crimes continue to rise—causing widespread fear among residents.
