KCK: Massacres will fail through struggle, people's support

The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) affirmed that the Gazi Massacre (1995) in Istanbul and the Qamishlo Massacre (2004) in the region of North and East Syria occurred as a result of the fascist states' fear of the joint struggle of the peoples.

The Co-Chairs of the Executive Council of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) explained that the revolutionary struggle developing in Kurdistan had united with the democratic and socialist movement in Turkey. Therefore, the leadership of the Alevi people was targeted through the Gazi Massacre, while the Qamishlo Massacre aimed to target the brotherhood of peoples and the shared life of the Kurdish and Arab peoples.

In a statement, the KCK pointed out that despite these attacks, they failed due to the strategy of struggle and the support of the peoples. The statement added: "Thirty years have passed since the Gazi Massacre committed in 1995, and 21 years have passed since the Qamishlo Massacre. Both massacres hold a deep place in the memory of our peoples. Once again, we condemn these massacres and respectfully remember all the martyrs of the revolution and democracy through those who lost their lives in both massacres. These massacres were committed out of fear of the growing joint struggle against the two fascist and reactionary states, which hold a racist mindset and rely on paramilitary forces.

The primary goal of the Gazi Massacre was to target the spread of the revolutionary struggle developing in Kurdistan alongside the socialist movements in Turkey. The secondary goal was the Alevi people, who played a leading role in this historical development. The Qamishlo Massacre, on the other hand, targeted the brotherhood and shared life of the Kurdish and Arab peoples.

Although the brotherhood and free coexistence of the peoples were targeted through these massacres, they did not succeed. The joint struggle of the peoples against fascism, reactionism, racism, and the values created through this struggle blocked and defeated these attempts. The growing support and the strategy of joint struggle between the peoples of Turkey, along with the Rojava Revolution and the democratic system in North and East Syria, are historical outcomes of this process. These historical developments will also serve as the most realistic response to the massacres.

Unfortunately, however, the deadly mindset has not yet ended. There are ongoing attempts to continue reactionism, darkness, and destruction through new massacres. As massacres continue while we remember those who lost their lives, we are facing this reality in Syria through what is happening to the Alevi people and the massacres being committed. Once again, we strongly condemn the massacre committed against the Alevi people. Without a doubt, in the future as well, the massacres and the dark attempts of the deadly mindset will be thwarted through the growing struggle of the peoples against reactionism, racism, and fascism."
