Residents of Jaramana in the Damascus countryside and the city of Shahba in Swedia Governorate marked the first anniversary of the victims of the July 2025 events in Swedia today through solidarity vigils and community gatherings honoring civilians who lost their lives. Participants renewed calls to preserve social peace and prevent similar violations from recurring.

In Jaramana, residents held a solidarity vigil in Al-Suyouf Square to commemorate the victims after organizers said they had been prevented from holding a memorial ceremony at the community center.

Participants carried photographs of the victims and chanted slogans affirming the dignity of the people of Suwayda and their shared destiny, expressing solidarity with the victims' families.

In Shahba, the Basmat Watan Association organized a commemorative event under the slogan "Loyalty to Those We Lost." The gathering included the display of victims' photographs in the city square and was attended by large numbers of local residents, members of the National Guard, and Druze religious leaders.

The event featured speeches honoring civilians who were killed during the July 2025 events. A moment of silence was also observed by residents of Shahba and the families of victims and missing persons, reaffirming calls to uncover the fate of those still missing and to achieve justice.

The commemorations coincide with the first anniversary of the deadly events that began on the night of July 12–13, 2025, when Swedia Governorate witnessed attacks and violence that later spread to dozens of towns and villages. The violence resulted in a large number of casualties, the displacement of tens of thousands of residents, and widespread destruction of property, making it one of the bloodiest episodes in the governorate's modern history.

Over the past several days, Swedia has witnessed a series of anniversary events, including religious services, silent vigils, candlelight ceremonies in public squares, condolence gatherings, and community initiatives emphasizing social cohesion, local unity, and remembrance of the victims.

The commemorative events also highlighted the continuing suffering of families who lost loved ones or whose relatives remain missing, amid ongoing calls to establish the truth, hold those responsible for the violations accountable, and ensure the safe return of displaced residents to their homes.
