The Democratic Union Party (PYD) held a meeting today with residents of Kishk, in the Jal Agha countryside, to discuss the international plot targeting leader Abdullah Ocalan, marking its 28th anniversary.

The meeting was attended by families of martyrs, local residents, and members of civil institutions, women’s movements, and youth organizations.

The meeting began with a minute of silence, followed by remarks from Ramadan Mohammed, co-chair of the PYD office in Jal Agha, who spoke about the beginning of the international plot targeting the leader. He said it began on October 9, 1998, when Ocalan left Syria for Europe and then travelled to Kenya, where he was abducted in the capital, Nairobi, on February 15, 1999.

Ramadan Mohammed said global powers targeted Ocalan because they recognized that his ideas and philosophy could help shape a revolutionary personality capable of resistance. He considered this one of the reasons that drove those powers to plot to eliminate his approach.

He added that Ocalan left the Middle East after exposing the details of the plot and travelled to Europe to strengthen his international relations and bring the Kurdish cause from the local arena to the international stage.

Ramadan Mohammed noted that, despite the 27 years that have passed since the international plot, leader Abdullah Ocalan had turned his imprisonment on Imrali Island into a center of thought. He made clear that Ocalan had defied the conditions of his imprisonment and continued to advance the Kurdish cause, thwarting the hopes of opponents of the Kurdish Freedom Movement that it would fade away. Instead, the movement had expanded, and the Kurds’ confidence in it and its leader had grown stronger.

Ramadan Mohammed pointed out that leader Abdullah Ocalan had moved the Kurdish cause beyond merely defending its existence to demanding constitutional and legal recognition of the Kurds and their rights.

He explained that, in February 2025, Ocalan launched the Peace and Democratic Society Process in North Kurdistan and Turkey, calling for a shift from armed struggle to political struggle, amid efforts by global powers to redraw the map of the Middle East and reshape trade routes in line with their interests.

In conclusion, Ramadan Mohammed affirmed that this approach aims to protect Kurdish rights from the repercussions of the rapidly unfolding events in the region.

The meeting concluded with chants honoring leader Abdullah Ocalan’s struggle, including the slogan: “No life without the leader.”
