Arrest lists for more than 100 activists from As-Suwayda, issued by the security services of the Damascus government, on various charges.

This measure comes as a continuation of the warrants it had issued against more than 800 people in collective decisions to seize the movable and immovable assets of residents of the Damascus countryside.

Human rights sources believe that the Damascus government "uses these procedures and laws as a punishment against most of those who opposed it and their families, by applying more restrictions as a tool to achieve additional financial resources for its treasury."

Lawyer Muhannad Baraka, who closely follows this file, published the names of those wanted from As-Suwayda, within six lists, "for a criminal offense", including five lists in favor of the "Investigating Judge in As-Suwayda", and one list in favor of the "Military Judiciary in Damascus", warning those with the names mentioned against passing through military checkpoints or traveling outside the city.

Baraka said that the Public Prosecution in As-Suwayda filed a "public right lawsuit" against these activists, based on police reports, indicating that the case is related to "the closure of the People's Assembly election centers" last summer.

He pointed out that the names of all those wanted are in the "Public Prosecution Office" in As-Suwayda, adding that this procedure means generalizing the search with arrest and summons warrants against the activists.

These procedures come in light of the ongoing popular movement opposing the Damascus government in As-Suwayda for more than a year and two months. Some attributed them to "measures to pressure the participants in the movement, and push them to abandon the movement".

The Minister of Finance had issued a decision early last month to seize the movable and immovable assets of a number of people in the As-Suwayda Governorate, based on a letter from the General Intelligence Department, Branch 285. The decision included a list of fifteen names from the town of al-Qarya, whose properties and funds were seized on charges of "their involvement in the recent events currently taking place in the country," according to the decision.
