The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that ISIS mercenaries surprised Damascus government forces and militants loyal to it in populated areas at the strip separating Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, and managed to establish points on the vital Deir ez-Zor-Raqqa road, and attack two villages in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor. ISIS mercenaries were stationed in the vicinity of the villages of Al-Qasabi and Al-Bwaitiya.

In this context, military reinforcements by Damascus government forces left the city of Deir ez-Zor towards the Maadan district to strengthen the points and open the road that ISIS closed, according to the Observatory.

It is noteworthy that the two villages are about 8 kilometers away from the town of Maadan Ateeq, which is considered the administrative center of Raqqa.

The death toll during military operations within the Syrian desert, according to the documentation of the Syrian Observatory, reached 297 dead from Damascus government forces, militants loyal to it, ISIS mercenaries, and civilians, since the beginning of 2024, through ambushes, armed attacks, and bombings in the west of the Euphrates and the desert of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Homs.
