The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service announced on Friday the killing of a prominent ISIS leader, Abdul Rahman al-Halabi, during an operation carried out in coordination with the international coalition inside Syrian territory, without providing further details about the location.

The service explained in a statement that al-Halabi served as ISIS' "External Operations and Security Officer," responsible for planning and supervising what are known as "remote states."

He was also involved in the bombing of the Iranian embassy in Lebanon and sought to carry out other terrorist operations in Europe and the United States, which were thwarted via precise intelligence efforts.

The statement added, "The operation was the result of meticulous intelligence monitoring over several months, with Iraqi judicial support, which identified the target's movements and location before international coalition forces carried out the airstrike that killed him."

The Counter-Terrorism Service confirmed that the elimination of al-Halabi represents a major strategic loss for ISIS and is part of a series of successful operations over the past two months that have resulted in the death of more than six of its prominent leaders.
