Iraq's minister of justice held discussions with US authorities concerning the issue of foreign ISIS detainees that have been transferred from Syria, as well as ways to improve cooperation and US assistance to Iraq in this regard.

Iraqi Justice Minister Khalid Shwani held talks today with the US Chargé d’Affaires to Baghdad Steven Fagin and the legislative assistant of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Daisy Bledsoe-Hering regarding the matter of foreign ISIS detainees and judicial cooperation between both nations.

As per a statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Justice, the discussion involved the situation of the foreign detainees that were transferred from Syria to Iraq and ways in which the situation can be handled through legal processes and existing mechanisms. Ways of improving cooperation and coordination between Baghdad and Washington in judicial matters were also discussed.

On its part, the US side expressed its gratitude to the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Justice for their efforts in the transfer of the detainees and reaffirmed that the US will coordinate with its partners to assist Iraq in this regard.
