Internal Security member martyred in armed attack on checkpoint in Deir ez-Zor

An internal security member was martyred, and two others were wounded, following an armed attack targeting one of the security checkpoints in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor Canton. In response, an extensive search and sweep operation has been launched in the area to track down the attackers.

The Media Center of the Internal Security Forces in North and East Syria announced on its official platforms that one of its checkpoints in the town of Darnaj, Deir ez-Zor Canton, came under attack, resulting in the martyrdom of one of its members.

According to the statement, on Friday, September 12, unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on the checkpoint. The Internal Security Forces responded to the gunfire, leading to an exchange of fire in which one officer was martyred and two others injured, who were subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.

The attackers then fled the scene under fire, prompting the Internal Security Forces to declare a full state of alert and initiate sweeping operations in search of the perpetrators.

The General Command of the Internal Security Forces – North and East Syria reaffirmed that such cowardly attempts will not deter them from fulfilling their duty to safeguard security and stability. They pledged to continue pursuing anyone seeking to undermine the safety of the region and its people.

The statement further urged residents of the area to cooperate with the security forces and to report any suspicious activity that could help in identifying and bringing the perpetrators of this attack to justice.
