Senior figures from the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) arrived earlier today in the city of Afrin to coordinate with the city’s administration regarding the return of displaced residents.

Mahmoud Khalil (Siyabend Afrin), a leading figure in the Internal Security Forces, arrived alongside the Commander of Internal Security in al-Hasakah Governorate, Brigadier Marwan al-Ali; the Commander of Internal Security in Aleppo Governorate, Mohammed Abdul Ghani; and Saraka Amouri, a senior official in the governorate’s internal security.

According to the delegation, the visit comes within the framework of coordination with the city’s administration to facilitate the return of displaced residents of Afrin who are currently present in other cities of Rojava.

This visit is part of the implementation of the provisions of the January 29 agreement concluded between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Interim Government in Syria, which stipulates guaranteeing the return of displaced persons to their areas.

Currently, hundreds of thousands of displaced people from Afrin, al-Shahba, Sheikh Maqsoud, and al-Ashrafiyeh in Aleppo are living in shelters, including schools, mosques, kindergartens, and facilities belonging to the autonomous administration in the cities of Qamishlo, al-Hasakah, al-Darbasiyah, Amuda, Tirbespiyeh, Jal Agha, al-Qahtaniyah (Girkê Legê) and Derik.

On February 16 of this month, the Afrin Social Association, the Afrin and al-Shahba Displaced Council, and the Civil Society Representation in Europe issued a joint statement in front of the Afrin and al-Shahba Displaced Council building in Qamishlo regarding the safe return of displaced people from Afrin.

According to the statement, approximately 400–500 families will be sent as a first batch within the return process to the subdistricts of Jindires, Mabata, and Shiyeh.

Meanwhile, special sources told ANHA agency that a specific day will be set during this week for the return of the displaced.
