Intensified Israeli movements in southern Syria

Southern regions of Syria, specifically the Quneitra and Daraa countryside, have seen heightened Israeli military activity in recent days, signaling increased field operations near the border.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that an Israeli force consisting of two tanks and four armored vehicles penetrated Jbabta al-Khashab north of Quneitra on Wednesday morning, advancing toward the al-Kassarat site from the eastern side, where they conducted vehicle inspections and barred entry to the area.

These movements follow a series of similar incursions, the most recent of which was in the village of al-Ajraf in Quneitra countryside, when an Israeli patrol including two tanks and several military vehicles entered, along with another incursion into the lands of the village of Ma‘riya in the Yarmouk Basin area west of Daraa.

In a related development, the SOHR reported that Israeli forces released two young men from Ma‘riya village after detaining them for about ten hours near the Al-Jazeera military barracks, where restrictions on civilian movement are imposed around the site.

The SOHR also noted another Israeli force, consisting of five vehicles, penetrated west of Saida al-Golan village, where a temporary field checkpoint was set up, coinciding with a military deployment around Saida al-Hanut town and the road leading to al-Razaniya, while more than ten vehicles moved in the area of Ofaniya up to Tal al-Ahmar north of Quneitra.

These movements coincide with a tense atmosphere in southern Syria, amid the absence of any official statement from the Syrian transitional government clarifying the nature or objectives of these operations.
