Hevrin Khalaf’s killer attends ‘Victory Conference’ in Damascus

Ahmad Ihsan Fayad Al-Hayes, known as "Abu Hatim Shaqra," attended the "Victory Conference" in Damascus on Wednesday. During the event, Abu Muhammad al-Jolani (Ahmad al-Sharaa) declared himself the head of Syria’s transitional period.

Hevrin Khalaf, Secretary-General of the Future Syria Party, was assassinated on October 12, 2019, along with her driver, Farhad Ramadan, on the M4 international highway. Her body was mutilated by Turkish occupation mercenaries led by Abu Hatim Shaqra during Turkey’s invasion of Serê Kaniyê and Girê Spî/Tal Abyad.

The Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction participated in Turkey’s 2018 invasion of Afrin, imposing the hijab on women and enforcing their extremist ideology. Posters calling for women to wear the hijab are still seen on Afrin’s walls. In July 2018, Human Rights Watch reported that Ahrar al-Sharqiya had committed looting and destruction of civilian property, according to the Women's News Agency (NUJINHA).

Amnesty International also published a report in August 2018 confirming that Ahrar al-Sharqiya was involved in kidnappings, arbitrary detentions, and land seizures.

Since 2018, Ahrar al-Sharqiya has operated torture prisons in Aleppo, where hundreds of people have been executed. The group also kidnapped businessmen from Idlib and Aleppo, demanding ransom for their release.

It is worth noting that Hevrin Khalaf was a Kurdish politician and activist whose martyrdom sparked both local and international outrage due to the brutality of the crime committed by Turkey’s mercenaries in cold blood.

Hevrin Khalaf played a key role in establishing the Democratic Autonomous Administration in the North and East Syria region in 2014 through her engagement in community and political work. She was active in the administration’s institutions and played a vital role in their development. She founded the Foundation for Science and Free Thought in 2012 and was one of the co-founders of the Social and Academic Training Office. Additionally, she served as Deputy Head of the Energy Body in Jazera Canton in 2015 before becoming its co-chair in 2016.
