The gathering aimed to reinforce unity, cooperation, and mutual respect among the region’s communities.

The meeting opened with a minute of silence in tribute to the martyrs, followed by a welcoming speech from Hevêrka tribal adviser Suleiman Shetto. He emphasized that the assembly was not a routine gathering but rather a reflection of fraternity, tolerance, and ethical values that lay the foundation for building a better collective future.

In turn, Ahmad Hajo, representing the Hajo Agha family, delivered welcoming remarks before announcing the selection of Zior Hajo as head of the Hevêrka Tribal Union Council to represent and manage the union’s affairs.

Addressing participants via video link, Council head Zior Hajo stressed the historic significance of the occasion, noting that the council would oversee the activities of the union and maintain communication with the heads of the 24 affiliated tribes, which span Muslim, Yazidi, and Christian communities—making the union a unique symbol of diversity and openness.

He also recalled the historic role of the union in resisting Ottoman rule and supporting Kurdish uprisings, underscoring that its revival today is intended to confront the threats facing the region and to reinforce cooperation and solidarity among all components.

Following this, Akram Mashoush, adviser to the Jabour tribe, announced the 13 newly appointed council members from across the Hevêrka tribes. His remarks were succeeded by a speech from Rezan Klo, co-chair of the Council of Martyrs’ Families, who underlined the central role of the tribes in defending the land, safeguarding traditions, and organizing society at a time when oppressive nation-states are in decline.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the importance of cooperation and inter-communal bonds to build a more stable and cohesive future.
