Head of the al-Tayy Arab tribe council warns against hate speech; calls for unity

The local scene is witnessing increasing social activity amid challenges that underscore the need to reinforce social cohesion and entrench the values of coexistence. This comes alongside ongoing calls to preserve stability and reject anything that could threaten civil peace among the region’s inhabitants.

In this context, Sheikh Hassan Farhan al-Tayy, Head of the al-Tayy Arab Tribe Council, stated: “In recent times, we have observed a noticeable rise in hate speech and attempts to ignite strife. What we need today is a clear Kurdish and Arab message indeed, a message from all components standing against these inflammatory discourses. The gathering of dignitaries in al-Hasakah carried positive and important messages in confronting these voices that seek to sow division and fragmentation.

Rejecting incitement and affirming unity of components

He added: “We do not accept from any party a provocative discourse aimed at fragmenting the relationship between Kurds and Arabs. We are one body in this region. We are Kurds, Arabs, and Christians living together, and both the Kurdish and Arab communities have always stood at equal distance in terms of harmony and integration, whether in the past or the present and this will remain the case in the future.

Sheikh al-Tayy pointed out that Kurdish-Arab unity is natural and self-evident, historically rooted and still firmly present today. He said: “However, social media platforms and some media outlets attempt to portray Syria as though it has turned into hotspots of civil war among its components. This claim is entirely unfounded. Here, we are living in a state of genuine coexistence, and this community will continue to preserve civil peace as it has done before.”

Emphasizing loyalty and social coexistence

He continued: “The tribal and clan-based structure is a deeply rooted social reality that has endured despite changing authorities and circumstances. What we wish to convey to all those who attempt incitement is that no discourse should rise above the discourse of loyalty to our shared history and the love that unites all Syrians. The messages we affirm are genuine messages: Syria’s mosaic cannot be torn apart by any party, nor can its components be divided.”

Calling for awareness and rejecting strife

In conclusion, Sheikh Hassan Farhan al-Tayy, Head of the al-Tayy Arab Tribe Council, expressed his firm rejection of hate speech and attempts at discord and incitement through media and social networking platforms. He called for strengthening societal awareness and promoting a culture of dialogue and rapprochement instead of division and mobilization.
